In 2016 an agent of the multinational Teleperformance in Bogota had a mental breakdown, the agent took an emergency axe and began
destroying equipment such as phones, computers and some mobiliary in the building. For some reason there is very little media coverage of
what really happened. However, it seems like everybody in this line of work was there that day or knows someone that was there during
the incident, the story has become part of the ‘lore’ of what it means to work as a call center agent in Colombia.

Premium Mediocre makes use of the dynamics and languages of callcenters to question the precarious job outlook of Colombia and
therefore the redefinition of leisure in a present where attention economy requires us to capitalise everything about ourselves; even our hobbies and our spirituality with the purpose of making us feel ‘useful’.
